Bathroom Makeover ORC Fall Week 2

Week 2 of the One Room Challenge went by like blur. I did not get much progress made visually but a lot of final design decisions and ordering got done.

One Room Challenge™ Mission Statement

The One Room challenge™ will provide participants with a supportive, enthusiastic forum in which to share the process of transforming a room. The ORC is not a competition, but rather a celebration of creativity, inspiration, and original ideas.

In order to update my Arizona builder land of the brown/tan/beige master bathroom into a cozy modern Nordic style on a major budget it all must start with the magic of paint. I am a big fan of Valspar Signsture paint since using it to paint our daughters room. It offers no VOC feature meaning it’s not stinky when you are painting and safer overall. I love it most for its great coverage and quality. To match the master bedroom I used straight out of the can white in satin (bedroom is eggshell finish).

The total cost of paint supplies was $67.99 includes a gallon of paint, three paint brushes and roller set.

Bathroom Design Inspiration

I used my instastories to poll some of my design decisions and with your help these are the poll responses.

Bathroom Vanity Lighting

I fell in love with the Poly and Bark vanity light and 67% of IG friends said black was the right choice over gold. Although I love love love the gold accent, I would rather do a trendy gold pop somewhere that’s easier and less expensive to change out when I get tired of it. Black seems like it will last longer and be more timeless.

Bathroom Vanity

61% of IG land voted for me to lighten my existing dark brown vanity while 39% would like to see it painted black. I enjoy both looks but ultimately feel the lighter wood keeps with the cozy feel I’m seeking. Painting the cabinets would probably be a little easier DIY though.

Bathroom Floors

An overwhelming majority, 73% of voters, chose for me to keep the flooring light. I agree light is a better choice since we have three fur babies and dark floors always show every single piece of fur and dust. I currently have terracotta color tile and will be painting it rather than replacing it to keep costs minimal. I searched for my favorite real tile looks and found gorgeous stencils available from Royal Design Stencils.

The instastories polls results were not helpful for me in deciding which pattern to choose. I love each of them and just haven’t decided yet. My husband loves the geometric concrete tile (bottom right), my Mom likes the pinwheel (top left) and IGers chose the Pinwheel with the others close together as second place options.

I have been obsessed with the geometric concrete tile print for years but the pinwheel is tugging at my heart. There is something drawing my to the star quilt design but I also worry it leans more farmhouse and for this project I want to be more modern. Hexagon tile is everywhere is many forms from vintage flowers, polka dots or oversized.
